BC Security Commission

The BCSC is the independent provincial government agency reporting to the Legislature through the minister responsible for the administration of the Securities Act. Being a crown corporation gives us the independence and flexibility we need to regulate a dynamic market. We are self-funded, which means that the cost of securities regulation is borne by market participants, not taxpayers.

With a staff of about 190, the BCSC has an annual budget of about $30 million, funded entirely through fees collected under the legislation from market participants. The BCSC office is located on the 12th floor at 701 West Georgia Street, Vancouver.

Patricia Bowles, Director of Communication and Education

The Commission has expanded its communications program in recent years to better meet the needs of the public, the industry, and other market participants.

The program is designed:

  • To inform the public about British Columbia's capital markets and its system for securities regulation;
  • To arm investors with the knowledge and information they need to protect their own interests effectively;
  • To better inform securities issuers and the industry of changes in the laws or policies that govern their conduct.
